Kosovo generates almost all of its electricity from domestic lignite at two ageing, unreliable power stations, leaving the grid prone to recurrent winter shortfalls and emergency imports. It imports all liquid fuel and uses no natural gas. Cereal output covers only part of demand.
Kosovo has limited water resources and faces recurrent summer shortages.
