The v3.2 stress index is a six-axis composite of energy and food exposure, geopolitical pressure, fiscal headroom, demography and supply concentration, normalised to a 0–1 scale.
Mauritius imports nearly all of its energy and most of its food, generating power mainly from imported coal and oil, with bagasse from its sugar industry and a growing renewables share. A stable, diversified island economy built on tourism, finance and services, it is exposed to cyclones and sea-level rise.
Mauritius faces dry-season water stress, dependent on reservoirs that fall low in drought years.
