The v3.2 stress index is a six-axis composite of energy and food exposure, geopolitical pressure, fiscal headroom, demography and supply concentration, normalised to a 0–1 scale.
Costa Rica generates almost all of its electricity from renewables — chiefly hydropower — leaving its grid clean but drought-sensitive. It imports all of its liquid fuel and uses no natural gas. Low cereal self-sufficiency makes it a net food importer.
Costa Rica is water-rich, though the Pacific north-west faces a recurrent dry season.
No active shortage scenarios currently list this country in their exposure set.
